8 reviews for Japanese Tatami Mat for Sleeping and Relaxing

  1. AnonymousMan

Great for college students and renters who frequently move. While it initially has a strong odor, mainly of grass, it can easily be aired out overnight. If you’re familiar with the smell of alfalfa grass from caring for rabbits, it’s quite similar. Just make sure to air it out.

  2. Amazon Customer

I sleep on a Futon and love it. So, I bought the Tatami mat for $99. Unfortunately, it does not have the fresh grass smell I was expecting, but rather an unclean barnyard scent. I am unable to air it out in my apartment. Any suggestions? Visitors notice the unpleasant smell right away.

  3. Cristina Whitrock

The rush grass scent may be strong at first, but don’t let that deter you from trying a new way of sleeping. I personally don’t mind the smell as it feels true to the natural product. I bought two twin mats to use side by side with my husband. Initially, we used them with a mattress topper but found it slid around on the smooth tatami surface. Now we sleep directly on the tatami mat, which works better for us. I recommend doing research before switching to sleeping on a tatami mat or…

  4. Aurora

I purchased the foldable version and the cushion it provides under my futon is perfect. It folds up easily, is lightweight, and of great quality. There was a slight grassy smell when I first unfolded it, which I personally enjoy. However, the smell has dissipated over time. The mat seems durable and sturdy under pressure. I am very impressed with this tatami.

  5. Whaat320

Ideal size for lounging with a convenient side table. The rubber grips underneath keep the mat secure. There is a subtle natural scent, which is not off-putting.

  6. Sergei Kliavinek

I use it as a base for the sleeping futon. It’s lightweight, making it easy to fold in the morning and unfold in the evening. Very compact and the quality seems very good.

  7. Stephanie Brooks

The size labeled as full is too long and narrow for a queen bed frame. I wish there was a queen sized option available. However, it does support my mattress well enough. I am using it as a replacement foundation to lower my bed for my older dog to get on easily, as the pet stairs we tried weren’t effective.

  8. NeneLolo

I always wanted a tatami specifically for sleeping, but this exceeded my expectations. It now sits in my meditation room and can be used as a bed when needed. I love it with all my heart and it smells wonderful.
