I had been wanting a tatami mat for my J Life futon but the price was holding me back. I was pleasantly surprised to find it at such a low price, especially for a queen. The mat arrived in good condition, no unpleasant smells, and it fit my queen size futon perfectly.

    4. ThisGirlWritesStuff

The twin size folds up easily for storage in my closet. The surface is firm and comfortable when paired with a shikofuton, providing a great night of sleep. However, I noticed an unpleasant smell similar to a litter box coming from this mat. It’s not too strong, especially when covered with a futon, but I hope the odor dissipates soon.

      Great purchase.

The quality is top-notch and the price is reasonable for what you get. I sleep directly on the floor with it, so I air it out daily. I plan to make a frame for it eventually to improve ventilation. Despite airing it out and sunning it monthly, the smell lingers, especially after a full night’s sleep. The odor can be strong and persistent, potentially causing headaches for sensitive individuals in a confined space. Hopefully, as time goes on, the smell will dissipate.

This mat offers great comfort for its price point. While pricier products may have better finishes, the value for money with this one is excellent. Just be aware that it is slightly larger than a standard twin mattress, so measure your platform or frame before placing it.

    8. Bryanne Rachapaetayakom

The product has a pleasant rush grass scent that is earthy and not unpleasant.

    9. zeppetella concetta

After two months, the smell is still there, persistent, unpleasant, and strong.

    10. Jay

This tatami mat offers excellent value for the price. It gives my bed a Japanese-style feel when placed on a wooden frame with a futon mattress. While some hot glue cracking is noticeable when folding and unfolding, it’s easy to fix. The mat is sturdy and should last a long time with proper care. The weave quality is impressive, with a smooth surface that looks high-end. However, it has a strong tatami grass smell that may be off-putting to some due to its pungency resembling boiled dry grass.

    11. Keith A Federman

I purchased this tatami mat to complement a Japanese futon mattress I bought. It was easy to set up and lightweight. Initially, I didn’t mind the smell, found it somewhat pleasant. However, after a few days, the smell was still strong and bothered me a bit. It could be due to immediate use after unpacking. After airing it out, it was fine to use. Overall, a great product with good quality for the price! 🙂

I discovered my love for tatami when I visited a Japanese restaurant and experienced sitting in a tatami room. The scent of the igusa grass is so calming, and I appreciate the comfortable surface it provides for walking, sitting, or lying down. I plan to pair it with a shikibuton for sleeping, but for now, I use it for yoga, meditation, and tea ceremonies. It’s versatile, easy to move around, and not bulky to store. The non-slip underside is a nice touch. Overall, it’s a great value. Hope…

This tatami mat is of good quality and offered at an excellent price. It has a beautifully fragrant smell with that distinct sweet tatami scent right out of the box. It complements my shikibuton well, adding support and extra cushion to the floor. The design allows for easy storage as it folds down to be quite compact. I slide mine under a piece of furniture when not in use. Using it as a floor mattress creates a unique guest bed that I find much more comfortable than an air mattress. I love…
